Xian Yun Vegetarian Hut

In Breakfast, Chinese, Dessert on June 6, 2011 at 12:16 am

Today, being Chang Festival (Duanwu),  A Herbivore in Penang would like to share their favorite place for changs and other assorted goodies.

This place with a locale that is off the tourist belt, is one of those places that only a local would know, which is unfortunate. This little ‘hut’ is gaining popularity fast and interestingly enough, has spurred 4 new vegetarian stalls making this place the unofficial vegetarian row.

Ah Hoon as she is known to her customers makes three different types of changs daily – Bak Chang, Brown Rice Chang and Oats Chang.

Bak Chang filled with mushrooms, mock meat and chestnut.

There’s also fish porridge*, Chee Cheong Fun and Laksa.

*Usually garnished with cilantro.
