David Brown’s Restaurant & Tea Terraces on Penang Hill

In Breakfast, English on July 14, 2011 at 8:54 am

If you find yourself on Penang Hill, fret not, sustenance is available at David Brown’s Restaurant & Tea Terraces on Strawberry Hill. There are two options to get to the top of the hill : a hired 4WD’s or the new funicular train. Tickets for the funicular train can be purchased at the foot of the hill.  Ticket prices varies for locals and foreigners.

The restaurant is a few feet away from the main station. There’s a small hut and little signs to lead you to the top of Strawberry Hill. Why Strawberry Hill?

“….Strawberry Hill where David Brown’s now stands was believed to have been originally leveled by Captain Francis Light for planting strawberries which grew well here until the outbreak of the Second World War in 1941” – David Brown.

The menu clearly states that they do not believe in churning out fast food, so most of their items will require a 30 to 45 minute wait. We were a large party and were in no hurry. Furthermore, it gave one the chance to explore the beautiful surroundings.

Food items ordered (all not vegan). Not pictured, various teas and drinks ordered:

1. Vegetable pie

2. Scones with strawberry preserves, clotted cream and butter

There are other things one can do when on top of the hill. Here’s a fraction of what’s available.
